Correctly inflated tires allow you to fully enjoy the benefits of driving your Porsche. They’ll keep you firmly planted on the surface as you maneuver and corner with ease. Poorly inflated tires, on the other hand, are dangerous as they reduce your braking and control systems. It’s important to check tire pressure regularly for safe driving. As your Porsche dealer, we’d like to advise you on how to ensure your tire pressure is correct.

How to Check the Tire Pressure on Your Porsche

You Need a Tire Pressure Gauge

Many drivers use the tire pressure gauge at the gas station. This gauge, however, may not be completely accurate, as it depends on when the gauge was last calibrated. We advise buying a gauge of your own, as this allows you to check your tires at any time.

There are two types of gauges: manual and digital. The two gauges will both give you an accurate reading, and your choice depends on personal preference. A manual gauge is smaller and lighter, and you read the results of the section that slides out. A digital gauge is easier to read but is usually heavier and bulkier.

Find Your Tires Recommended Pressure

The recommended tire pressure for your Porsche model is listed in two places, inside your car manual, and on a sticker in your car. The sticker in your car is located inside the door jam of the front passenger door. This makes it invisible when the door is closed.

There are usually different pressures listed for the front and rear wheels. This is because the rear wheels carry more weight in your car. Write down the pressure for each tire on a sheet of paper.

Check Your Tire’s Pressure

Before you check your tires, ensure that your car has been stationary for at least 3 hours. The reason is that tires still hot from driving will show a much higher pressure. This pressure increase is caused by friction with the surface heating the air inside the tires and temporarily increasing their pressure.

Remove the valve cap from the first tire and connect the gauge to the valve stem. Record the pressure listed on the gauge, then replace the valve cap. Repeat this step with the remaining three tires. Once you’ve checked all their tires, compare the pressure to the recommended figures you wrote down. All you need to do now is to increase or decrease air in the tires with a compressor.
